Onimusha: Way of the Sword's super-fun sword combat really packs a punch and is the star of the show along with the ridiculous game world and cast of characters that'll make things a lot more entertaining if they click with you. đŸ‘č

Onimusha: Way of the Sword delivers an enjoyable and well-rounded samurai experience worthy of the legendary historical figure Miyamoto Musashi, whether in terms of gameplay, overall design, performance, or technical stability. However, it stumbles slightly in its storytelling, which may not appeal to everyone. Nevertheless, it remains a strong return for the series and a standout experience for fans of samurai games.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is an excellent action game and a worthy rebirth for the series after decades of absence. Its combat system is deep and, above all, rewarding, even if it takes some patience to master, while the fights have a strong, realistic feel and the story has a cinematic impact. Too bad for the repetitiveness of the final hours and the sometimes excessive difficulty, but it's a title worth trying if you are looking for a stimulating action game.

After Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata, I was expecting a Capcom hat trick. It didn't quite work out. *Onimusha: Way of the Sword* is a very good game, but it lacks the very quality that most recently set the developer apart from the competition: focus.

"A powerful comeback for a legendary series" Onimusha: Way of the Sword proves that classic series can keep up with the times without losing their identity, thanks to a deep and fluid combat system, a distinctive Japanese horror atmosphere, and a stunning visual world. While the numerous mechanics might take some getting used to, the experience remains powerful and perfect, worthy of the Onimusha name.

Way of the Sword brings Onimusha back with exceptional combat, but not quite the consistency to make its return truly great.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a fantastic return for one of the most promising franchises in the entire industry. With an excellent story and exceptional combat, Capcom hits the mark once again, delivering a title that is a true spectacle. Capturing the best of its blend of samurai and horror, it transforms into an exciting and action-packed experience that should be remembered as one of the best of the year.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is not just a tribute to a classic franchise, a legendary character, a memorable actor, and a rich culture like the Japanese one. It feels much more like the beginning of a new phase. If this is indeed the path Capcom intends to follow, bring on more demons.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the modern revival that fans have been waiting decades for. It exudes charm through its comedy and fantastic cast of characters, while delivering intense combat and swordplay. While the console version does have some issues with lighting outside of cutscenes, and its story and side content could’ve done a better job matching the spectacle that the combat brings, it makes for a fun and entertaining action title.

As an Onimusha fan, this revival is excellent. The series isn't as big as some of Capcom's other series, but it is just as satisfying to sit down and play, and it's easily one of my favourite games of 2026. If you've played any of the other games recently, Way of the Sword modernizes every aspect of the series and elevates all the tenets the series is known for.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword marks a successful return for the legendary series, one that wisely steers clear of the current trend of turning action games into ‘soulslikes’. The game shines with its brilliant, gory combat system, exemplary Sekiro-esque parrying, charismatic characters (the superbly animated Musashi!) and fantastic bosses. The game retains the series’ atmosphere and beautiful visuals, and the optimisation for the PS5 is flawless. The overly passive common enemies are a slight disappointment, and unfortunately there aren’t enough interesting puzzles; even so, it remains a highly satisfying power fantasy and a wonderful tribute to the series’ entire legacy.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is easily a contender for game of the year, as it blends merciless action with skill-based combat in a near-seamless way. The story and visuals complement the ridiculously sharp gameplay extremely well, and though the camera can be a little problematic on rare occasions, that shouldn’t stop you from experiencing Capcom’s latest banger.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a spectacular revival built around sublime, ever-evolving combat, striking Genma design and memorable boss battles. Repetitive side activities dull the blade slightly, but little else gets in Musashi’s way.
