As far as 2.5D platformers go, Deer & Boy ranks right in the middle. It doesn't offer anything genuinely new, and it lacks that standout, breathtaking moment to really hook you. It could be a solid starting point if you're brand new to the genre, but that's about the extent of its appeal.

Gothic 1 Remake doesn't try to re-tell history; it just wants to paint over it. On one hand, you get the same atmospheric, brilliantly constructed world, now looking better than ever. On the other, that gorgeous world is still weighed down by decades-old gameplay mechanics and rigid level design. If you're hunting for a modern RPG built on modern standards, look elsewhere. But if you're an old-school purist who misses this legendary setting, or someone willing to tolerate clunky mechanics to experience a true classic, this remake does exactly what it sets out to do.

Playground Games has proven once again that they are not only the kings of the racing genre, but that the core formula of the Forza Horizon series is so strong that they barely need to reinvent it. Forza Horizon 6 is the complete racing package, delivering everything fans could want and more. It's hard to imagine how Playground Games can improve on this formula going forward, but if their track record is anything to go by, they'll find a way.

Quite simply, Directive 8020 is a paradox. For a developer like Supermassive Games, with years of experience creating interactive narrative games, such a decline in nearly every aspect is difficult to overlook, and while the game excels in its choice-and-consequence system, almost everything else, including poor pacing, forced stealth sections, pointless exploration, and weak visuals and animations, drags the experience down to a point where it becomes hard to recommend.

Invincible VS has the look and the soul of a great fighter, but the mechanics can't keep up. It nails the source material and features a deep, Killer Instinct-inspired combo engine, but the "finished" product feels unfinished. Between a hollow story mode, broken balancing, and a nearly unplayable online suite, it’s clear the game was released prematurely. It’s essentially an Early Access title in disguise; Until the developers fix the bugs and refine the core systems, it remains a diamond in the very rough.

Screamer is chaotic in the best way, and it works. Arcade racing, cyberpunk cel-shaded visuals, anime flair, a wild story, and explosive car combat all collide to create one of the boldest reboots in years. If you want pure speed, nonstop action, and something that breaks the mold, Screamer delivers.
